Is there anyone who not know How to masterbate?? no one. Men do it, women do it too, in old age sometimes no less than as adults or teenagers: Masturbation is, we would like to start this article, a completely normal thing – for which nobody needs to feel ashamed or guilty! Fortunately, our society is now behind the times when masturbation was associated with blasphemy and other twisted theories.
How to masterbate? While today we can talk relatively openly about masturbation with our good friends, the subject is still semi-taboo in public. No one is demonized for masturbation, but few people want to talk openly about it. Almost everyone does it, as a survey from Neon Magazine shows. According to this, it should be at least one to three times a month, some even do it more than twenty times before changing the calendar page.
But what are the bright sides and what are the dark sides? In this article, we dug through scientific publications to bring you closer to the benefits and potential side effects of masturbation.
Who masturbates how often?
A survey from 2016 should bring clarity. A four-digit number of people, including both men and women, were interviewed. It is clear at first glance: women do not like to answer this question – almost a third refused to answer.
Men are somewhat more open, as only 18% do not want to talk about their own masturbation habits. Only people over the age of 18 were surveyed. While men and women do not differ that much from each other in many cases, a clear trend can be seen when we look at the numbers:
- A third of the men lend a hand at least once a week
- But only just under a tenth of the women surveyed
- Men dominate in terms of frequency
43% of women say they either don’t masturbate at all or only masturbate once a month
At least the prejudice, according to which men have much more fun with masturbation, watch porn more often or simply make themselves comfortable with their hands for ten minutes, does not come about without reason.
Benefits of Masturbating
It used to be said: Masturbation makes you blind, costs brain cells or causes fur to grow on your hands. All of this is, of course, complete nonsense. However, as a study from 2020 shows, these old wives’ tales have not entirely disappeared. According to this, many men still decide not to masturbate, mainly because they associate masturbation with negative effects or fear an addictive effect.
A possible advantage is still in the room. There’s a (good) chance that regular masturbation in men can reduce the risk of prostate cancer, according to a 2016 study. In fact, however, it remains an assumption, because so far neither scientists nor doctors are sure why this is the case – if it is the case. Even after centuries and thousands of masturbation, there is still a lot of need for clarification.
Masturbation and the associated orgasm help you in many ways
In fact, the scientific body with an exclusive focus on masturbation is still relatively thin. But not with regard to sexual intercourse and ejaculation in general. Some advantages that result from ejaculation or during sexual intercourse with a partner can therefore also be transferred to masturbation.
Ejaculation, including through masturbation, can bring these benefits:
- You reduce stress and get a clear head
- When you masturbate and ejaculate, you create space for new sperm, because the old ones go bad after about three to four days
- You burn calories and get your circulation going
- Sometimes your mood improves and/or you feel relaxed
- There are feelings of happiness
There is, of course, plenty of anecdotal evidence for many different effects. Some people swear that they can concentrate better after an orgasm, others throw off stress and nervousness with it, and still others prefer to masturbate before bed to have the most restorative deep sleep possible.
Sexual intercourse drives away stress and releases endorphins
While some scientific evidence on masturbation is lacking, researchers are now well aware of what an orgasm during intercourse does to us. Because oxytocin is released, as the scientists behind a relevant study in the world indicate. The hormone ensures social bonding and is also one of the anti-stress hormones. It also acts as a loyalty hormone – which is why an exciting love life between the sheets is even more important.
Masturbation as a treatment approach for sexual dysfunction among women
According to current medical knowledge, women could also treat an existing sexual dysfunction to some extent. It ultimately depends, among other things, on whether the dysfunction is physical or psychological. The Professional Association of Gynecologists (BVF) points out that every fourth woman has orgasm inhibitions and around 5% never even felt an orgasm. Many women also find sex uncomfortable.
A study shows that this can change significantly when those affected start to experiment with themselves and in the course of this discover their own body and their sexuality. Science has found a correlation between the use of sex toys for masturbation and body awareness. According to this, women who use vibrators have a higher and more positive receptivity in their sex life and are also more likely to care for their genital area and pay attention to irregularities.
Get to know your own sexuality better
Another fact that is sporadically forgotten: Masturbation helps both men and women to discover their own sexual preferences and fantasies. If you experiment with yourself more often and find out what you really like, you can also implement this in lovemaking with your partner. Consequently, it’s fair to argue that more frequent, totally casual masturbation will actually make you a better performer between the sheets — and you’ll have more fun doing it yourself.
In addition, urologists suspect that masturbation helps to steadfastness for longer – which of course should be of particular interest to men. There are even training exercises that are based on it. Men who suffer from premature or premature ejaculation can train themselves through masturbation. To do this, they lend a hand until they have almost come – but do not allow the orgasm yet, but delay it.
After a few minutes, the whole thing is repeated. Men only allow themselves to have an orgasm after several attempts and thus train themselves for sexual intercourse with their partner.
Influence on the health of your sperm
Dr. Gerd Bispink, a reproduction expert from Hamburg, important knowledge about the shelf life of your sperm. According to him, these are over after eight to ten days. You create space for new things by ejaculating – i.e. repelling the old sperm through masturbation or sex so that new, healthy sperm can move up again.
Evolutionary biologist Robin Baker also comments in the same magazine. He states that sperm slowly become bad after just three to four days. It is definitely beneficial for your health if you jaculate it regularly. Old sperm produce toxic decay by-products, which in turn spread to the new sperm, which are actually still healthy at this point in time, and can also poison them.
Masturbation related to testosterone levels in men and in pregnancy in women
Scientists have dealt with both questions in various places.
Regarding women: Hormones are more often responsible for a stronger sex drive during pregnancy. It is sometimes no longer possible to reliably comply with this, especially in later phases. Masturbation is considered a good way to shed built-up stress or even reduce physical tension, such as in the back. In the case of high-risk pregnancies, however, women should exercise caution, because the orgasm favors the onset of labor.
Now to the men: As is well known, they are always a little more concerned with their testosterone levels. The male hormone regulates our sexuality, among other things, but also has many other concrete effects. So it is conducive to muscle building and correlates significantly with beard growth. A testosterone level that is too low can be detrimental to one’s own sexuality and, in the worst case, even lead to impotence or temporary erectile dysfunction.
The study situation is relatively clear at this point. We would first like to clear up a prejudice. It’s been said over and over again that men would benefit if they don’t come for a few weeks or even months because it supposedly increases their testosterone levels and allows them to build muscle faster after training. However, there is no scientific evidence to support this. On the contrary, scientists found that self-renunciation did not cause any relevant changes in protein levels at all.
While protein levels don’t change, testosterone levels do change. One study showed that abstinence for three weeks led to increased testosterone levels. Another study also confirms that masturbation does not generally lead to low testosterone levels or a loss of testosterone. The result? Men shouldn’t be afraid of masturbation and he always know how to do masterbation at all because it won’t just make their testosterone go away!
Negative aspects or side effects of masturbation
Anyone who masturbates today is no longer breaking a moral, social taboo. That’s why we don’t want to offer a platform for the countless prejudices from the past and the social discrimination associated with them – they are no longer up to date anyway and have completely disappeared from the majority of society.
It should also be noted that masturbating is normal, healthy and nothing to be ashamed of. Masturbation is a pleasant way to discover your body, your sexuality and last but not least your emotional world step by step, at your own speed. That is why there are no disadvantages or side effects with a healthy amount of masturbation.
Special case porn or masturbation addiction
It only becomes problematic when an addiction develops from the pleasurable pastime. This addiction is often associated with addictive behavior with regard to pornography.
The argument is: men (rarely women) become sexually blunted through pornography, which negatively affects their own desire and also creates unattainable ideas about their own sex life with their partner.
For many people who can be attested to have a masturbation addiction, a porn addiction is therefore not far away, already present or even initiated the compulsive, excessive masturbation. A masturbation addiction can be recognized by the following indicators, among others:
- Affected people postpone their everyday life or interrupt it completely in order to masturbate
- Important appointments or meetings are canceled in order to masturbate instead
- Their own social contacts are declining
- The masturbation takes place without any concrete feeling of pleasure
In science, addiction to masturbation and pornography is associated with a general deterioration in the general well-being, state of mind and connection to one’s own social environment. However, the scientists of a study to that effect also state that methodological limitations do not yet allow a reliable result, especially in the course of a long-term evaluation.
In conclusion, with regard to side effects or disadvantages, it can be said: if you feel pleasure and masturbate to a healthy extent, you only get advantages from it – both physical, hormonal and psychological/mental. Disadvantages can only be attached to masturbation when it becomes an addiction—but the same can be extended to any habit and almost any aspect of life.
Conclusion: Have the courage to masturbate!
Masturbation is healthy, both physically and mentally. For men and women who do not have a partner at the moment, there is no reason for abstinence at all. On the contrary, because masturbation is important for your own sexual self-development. So that you can have fun regularly and cleverly spice up your solo love life, we can only recommend various sex toys – they bring new momentum and tell you what you would particularly like about lovemaking for two.
With masturbation you will also become fitter. A slightly longer hand job burns up to 150 kilocalories, and you also get your cardiovascular system and pulse going – not much different than conventional sport, but much more enjoyable and comfortable! Take a break and indulge your sexuality – after all, that’s what it’s for!
